In this lesson, we will cover:

  • Transport protocols supported by Scrapli.
  • Transport types supported by Scrapli.
  • Pros and cons of the different transport types.
  • Transport plugin configuration.

You can find the scripts and code for this lesson within the Scrapli repo under the directory: 002_scrapli_core/002_transports/.

Transport Types

One of Scrapli’s big selling points is its flexibility to support different transport types. A transport type is the underlying library that Scrapli uses to communicate to the device over SSH and Telnet. Scrapli implements these different transport types using transport plugins. At this point the terms ‘transport type’ and ‘transport plugin’ become somewhat interchangeable!

The transport types that Scrapli supports are:

  • SSH - system, ssh2, paramiko, asyncssh
  • Telnet - telnet, asynctelnet

As you will appreciate, each transport type comes with its own pros and cons. Which one you select is really based upon your use case and requirements.
